Haitian Canadian musician Luck Mervil is leading the charge to help rebuild Haiti with houses made from repurposed shipping containers. Mervil is behind the Montreal organization Vilaj Vilaj, which wants to use 900 shipping containers to build an entirely new village west of Port-au-Prince fit for 5,000 people. The organization aims to build sustainable and long-term housing in Haiti — and eventually elsewhere — with the help of local Haitians.

Joubert Architecture was hoping that their design for a condominium project in Tirana, Albania would help break the cycle of monotony and bland architecture in the expanding city. What was countryside beyond the city center only ten years ago has now become a series of box factories, warehouses, stores and apartment complexes stretching along a highway. The Netherlands-based firm proposes to revitalize the strip of land with a new condominium complex featuring terraced gardens on innovative interior cutouts.
